Forget about penises: Unlike mammals, male birds don't have penises. Instead, they have a special opening called a cloaca which is a single opening for waste elimination and reproduction

Females have cloacas too:  The females also have a cloaca which serves the same purpose

Courtship comes first: Before mating, there's usually an elaborate courtship ritual by the male to attract a mate.

Mounting time: Once the female is impressed, the male mounts the female from behind, balancing on her back.

The cloacal kiss: The male briefly touches his cloaca to the female's cloaca in a quick bump, transferring sperm in a process called a cloacal ki

Sperm travels on:  The sperm then travels up the female's reproductive tract where it can fertilize the eggs in her ovary.

Eggs and Nests: After fertilization, the female lays eggs in a nest that she has built.

Incubation:One or both parents will incubate the eggs by sitting on them to keep them warm until they hatch.

Raising chicks: Once hatched, the chicks are cared for by their parents until they are fledglings and can fly on their own
